Ashbourne Park

Ashbourne Park is well worth a visit. For sporting enthusiasts tennis courts are available for hire, and there is plenty of space for football. A lovely grassy area surrounded by trees provides the perfect backdrop for a summer picnic for the adults whilst the children enjoy themselves on the play area. This is a good play area with equipment for very young children and a separate area for older children. Or why not feed the ducks?

Swimming Pools in Ashbourne

Ashbourne Leisure Centre has a very nice pool with a viewing area where parents can watch older children swimming. The Leisure Centre also offers a host of other sporting activities and clubs.

Skateboarding in Ashbourne

Adjacent to the Leisure Centre in Ashbourne is a skateboarding park, which can also be used by mountain bikes.

Carsington Water (near Ashbourne)

Carsington Water near Ashbourne is always a bit hit with children (and adults) of all ages. Sailing and other watersports are available for water enthusiasts. Alternatively, why not walk or cycle around the 8 mile perimeter? At Carsington Water there is something for everyone.

You can hire bicycles or bring your own and enjoy the various trails around Carsington reservoir.

Walking

Take your walking boots as there are plenty of scenic walks in the immediate area around the reservoir but also pathways to other trails that stretch beyond Carsington.

For those who are feeling less energetic, you can take a gentle stroll across to the island where there is a stone circle and stunning views of the reservoir and surrounding countryside, or take in the lovely gift shops. Children will love the adventure playground which is designed with children of all ages in mind.

Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Heights of Abraham (30 minutes from Ashbourne)

Gulliver's Kingdom near Matlock Bath is a mini Alton Towers for small kids (4 - 11 years) (adults can fit on the rides as well). A good day out. The Heights of Abraham is an exciting cable car ride to the top of the hill, with spectacular views on the way. At the top there are various attractions for children including play areas, underground caverns and various visitor attractions.

The Tramway Museum at Crich (30 minutes from Ashbourne)

Looking for a great day out in Derbyshire? Then look no further than Crich Tramway Village. Nestling high up in the heart of Derbyshire overlooking the famous Derwent Valley and open almost throughout the year, Crich Tramway Village is a lovingly restored period village that is also home to the National Tramway Museum and its world renowned archives.

National Stone Centre

The National Stone Centre is found north of Wirksworth, approximately 20 minutes from Ashbourne. The centre tells the Story of Stone - history, science, technology, art, and environment - in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales on the edge of the Peak District. A dramatic site steeped in industrial history, ecology, displaying 330 million year old fossil tropical reefs. There are also courses in dry stone walling to be arranged via the centre.

Play Centres in Ashbourne (Little Rascals)

On a rainy day a great place to take the younger children is Little Rascals in Ashbourne Town Centre (near the old cattle market) Here the youngsters can enjoy themselves with soft play apparatus whilst the adults enjoy a quiet cup of coffee and catch up with friends. Food and snacks are also served here.
